Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Analyze the relationships among costs, volume and profits, and interpret cost-volume-profit analysis using:
    • The revenue and cost function approach
    • Break-even chart
    • The contribution margin approach
    • Compute and interpret cost-volume-profit charts
    • Compute break-even values using cost-volume-profit charts
    • Compute break-even values using contribution margin and contribution rate
    • Analyze and determine the effects of changes to cost, volume and profit
  2. Analyze the mathematical relationships among pricing variables in a distribution chain.
    • Calculate and interpret the net price of an item after a single or multiple trade discount.
    • Calculate and interpret the equivalent single rates of discount series and solve problems
    • involving discount series.
    • Apply different methods of cash discounts.
    • Solve integrated merchandise pricing problems involving discounts, markup and
      markdown.
  3. Apply mathematical calculations to problems involving simple interest.
    • Calculate and interpret the amount of interest, maturity value and present value for simple
      interest.
    • Determine the effects on future value and present value as a result of changes in the rate,
      term or amount.
    • Apply mathematical calculations to problems involving compound interest.
    • Calculate and interpret maturity value and present value for compound interest.
